The Asian Soul Kitchen concept was created not only with the sole purpose of bringing innovative food to the streets of Los Angeles, but to develop an entirely new subculture to support it. The concept is a reflection of co-founders Akiko and Richard’s heritage, relationship and history together. Asian Soul Kitchen is not a fusion of two cultures, but an exploration as to how the two are able to complement each other.
Asian Soul Kitchen aims to redefine what our popular culture has come to understand as Japanese cuisine. With the over abundance of sushi restaurants and teriyaki chicken bento boxes, Akiko and Richard sought a need to introduce an original category of Japanese food. And so with the Asian Soul Kitchen’s inception came the introduction of old-fashioned Japanese comfort food. However, unlike the heavy and unhealthy fare that American culture has come to understand as comfort food, it is anything but that. The lightness in combination with a variety of unique spices has made our food to be desired from lunch to late night after-hours dining.
